That said, gathering materials provides a good way for the free-to-play Fortnite players to access the top-tier weapons of the game. As of now, here are all of the Season 6 guns: While some weapons can be upgraded to Primal or Mechanical form, combining certain crafting materials can result in variations of the same weapon. All of this falls in line with the Week 1 challenges, making it a convenient process for players to get in some early season XP. Like the Hunter’s Cloak, crafting these items goes toward this weeks’ Legendary Quest of crafting three items. There are eight different weapons players can craft in Fortnite Season 6. There’s also a base class, called “Makeshift” weapons, which can be combined with different materials to become Primal or Mechanical depending on the resources used. Primal weapons, based on the seasonal theme of “Survival,” have greater power and do more damage, while Mechanical weapons are more precise. With tons of wildlife and machinery for players to scavenge, it’s clear that crafting is at the center of this season and will play a huge part in players having a shot at victory.Ĭrafting will grant players access to two weapon classes: Primal and Mechanical (Classic). We also learned not to underestimate how quickly players will exploit systems. In future playtests, we’ll find ways to make these systems clearer. Many players were confused about some of the specifics on building, resource collection and zone transitions. We were able to confirm some specific problem areas that need work before the next playtest. Suggesting they were having fun merely exploring and socializing. People played far beyond the “designed content” for the demo. Now that we have a baseline for comparison, future playtests will have larger play areas. The current demo was nine zones - 1/9 of a County. With so many players, what we thought was a big map turned out to feel pretty small. We saw players mostly engaging in the designed activities and loops the way the team intended, which is encouraging and means we’ve been working in the right direction. Players definitely loved when heads flew off walkers, and luckily we already have more carnage in the works. This is the most validating part of the demo for me, and my favorite takeaway. A fun game is really, really hard to make and that means we have a super solid base that we can build our experience off of. Despite some server resets and reactive bug fixes, players really seemed to enjoy the early game build that was showcased during the demo. We saw tons of players hop into the demo, and our server tech definitely performed well for its first major stress test. Thanks to On Chain Gaming for hosting a livestream so players that missed the demo can still experience it! What We Learned
